HF Care (formerly Hong Fook Mental Health Association)

Since 1982, HF Care (formerly Hong Fook Mental Health Association) has championed culturally rooted mental healthcare for people from the East and Southeast Asian communities in the Greater Toronto Area.

The organization offers a continuum of programs and services, including counselling, case management, peer support, wellness seminars, recovery college courses, and community education. These initiatives aim to normalize the mental health experience for youth, adults, and caregivers by providing culturally and linguistically appropriate services and resources.

Their Mood Walks program is offered through HF Care’s Recovery College, serving individuals aged 16 and older. The program is available in Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, Vietnamese, and English. Additionally, a Mood Walks program is offered through HF Care’s Youth and Family Services, supporting Asian-identifying youth aged 12 to 29 and their families.

Mood Walks runs for six weeks during the spring, summer, and autumn months, with each walk lasting one hour. Walks take place on trails located within one hour of travel by TTC from HF Care’s offices. Participation requires registration through the Recovery College or Youth and Family Services.

A formal mental health diagnosis is not required to participate. The program is open to individuals experiencing mental health challenges or those seeking to improve their overall mental health and well-being. Family members caring for a loved one with mental health challenges are also welcome to register. Mood Walks is co-produced and co-facilitated by peer supporters, volunteers, and staff who have completed hike training.
